Trigger Warning: Rape Story Line Masquerading as BDSM
This book should come with a rape trigger warning.
The ‘Sir’ story line in this series is not in any form a dominant/submissive relationship. It is that of a rapist to his victim. By removing the ‘safe word’ and consent of the submissive character is no longer in the position of power as they are acceptably in BDSM relationships. The character is no longer given self-ownership - as Sarah is in her relations with Joel - and is forced (regardless of her sexual satisfaction in the interactions) to perform sexual acts which would not pass a legal test (for example Canadian laws regarding consent require ongoing and continuous consent - which participation/gratification does not imply when the person is being coerced into the act). The ending is wholly unacceptable - in that Sarah’s boss is made aware of the sexual harassment/sexual assault of one employee by two of her colleagues and dismisses it and gives no consequences to the perpetrators and therefore endorses the behaviour through his mishandling of the matter.
