Thirty years after the murder of Annie Rivers Dawson, lawyer Rachel Wainwright is trying to get Annie's convicted killer a DNA test. Det. Deke Morgan's deceased father was the policeman who arrested the man, and Deke sends through the request, assuming it will prove guilt rather than innocence. Then a woman who looks like Annie is killed in the same fashion, and more deaths follow. Burton's trademark is providing the serial killer's viewpoint without giving anything away, and by feeding the reader tiny details one at a time, she keeps the tension building. The attraction between Rachel and Deke develops slowly, with respect paving the way for a lasting relationship, and the reader roots for both. A few too many coincidences make this story less convincing than some of Burton's other novels.

Great Mystery/Suspense
This is a story about a serial killer that targets beautiful, young, up and coming female singers in the Nashville area. The novel is full of unexpected twists and turns, that keep you guessing till the very end. The story was well executed and the main characters likeable. I especially enjoyed the Rachel character. She is a tough woman, all hard edges, yet is very compassionate, with a strong desire for justice and the truth.
This was my first novel by Mary Burton and I must say, I was impressed with her skill in writing a good mystery. For those that enjoy the mystery/suspense genre, especially with a strong southern influence, this book is definitely worth a read.
