3.75stars--CRAVED BY A WOLF is the twentieth instalment in Felicity Heaton’s contemporary, adult ETERNAL MATES paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is Scottish wolf shifter / Pack alpha Grant MacKinnon, and witch Hella’s story line. CRAVED BY A WOLF can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspective (Grant and Hella) CRAVED BY A WOLF follows two hundred fifty seven year old Scottish wolf shifter/ Pack alpha Grant McKinnon as he is cursed to find his fated mate, a mate he is supposed to hand over to a powerful witch but meeting Hella gives Grant a pause for the future, having difficulty distinguishing between fate and the curse, fate that proved to be stronger than he could have ever imagined. What ensues is the acrimonious relationship between Grant and Hella, and the potential fall-out as Hella is willing to sacrifice herself to save the man/wolf with whom she is falling in love.
Hella is a witch who has caught the attention of the king of the nymphs, and as such has placed herself and Grant in the direct line of fire. Hella refuses to be owned; to be anyone’s mate, fated or otherwise, and in this, Hella struggles with Grant’s need to claim Hella as his own. Unable to understand Grant’s almost territorial claim, Hella is constantly using magic to control and push our hero out of her life.
The relationship between Hella and Grant begins as part of a witch’s curse. Grant is unable to trust his attraction and need for our story line heroine, believing the curse is causing all of his problems but Hella’s reactions and actions to Grant’s ongoing desire begin to trigger a darkness from the past, a darkness Grant continues to battle every time Hella uses magic to lock down and imprison the man with whom she will fall in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Ethyrian, King of the nymphs; Unseelie prince Oberon, as well as Hella’s friend Fenix; Grant’s friend and shifter Gregor, and powerful witch Godiva.
CRAVED BY A WOLF is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, magic and manipulation, love and acceptance. The fast paced premise is entertaining and action packed; the characters are impassioned, powerful and magical; the romance is fated but struggles in the face of misunderstanding, miscommunication, magical interference and Hella’s need to restrain Grant, a restraint that often bordered on abusive and controlling.
