D-Day

This book is about the invasion of Normandy, D-Day. It describes what happened and tries to explain why it happened. It is impossible to understand D-Day, or any other historical event, without first putting it into an historical context, describing what happened before and what came after. The subject of this book is the invasion of Normandy and the battles that followed in the summer of 1944, but it begins with an account of the Treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919, and ends with the fall of the Third Reich in 1945.
