Throughout her life Helen, the protagonist of the novel, has experienced sexual harassment and assault either directly or through friends. The latest is the continued, and uninvestigated disappearances of women from the local Native American tribe.
While her relationships with women continue to be strong and life-affirming, what is the cumulative consequence of her experiences with men? How does she continue to open her tender heart to the possibilities of love?
