Thirty years ago, disillusioned with academia, Carl left student life to see places with exotic cultures and religions, visit ancient ruins, and dive some of the best underwater sites to be found anywhere. He had a simple goal: enjoy the pleasures of travel while deciding whether, after his trip was done, to go back to school or find a job.

With every mile travelled, Carl’s understanding of the world changed as one after another of his assumptions about human society were proven wrong. Across five continents, he encountered random acts of kindness, laughable predicaments, romance, and risk. Unexpectedly, Carl discovers how to approach even the most complex of life’s decisions.
