4.25 stars—DANGEROUS GAME by LP Dover is a contemporary, adult, romantic suspense story in the author’s Armed and Dangerous series crossing over with her Circle of Justice. This is New York Mafia boss Dominic Corsino, and twenty-nine year old, attorney Faith Hilliard’s story line. DANGEROUS GAME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines (in both series) is revealed where necessary. Dominic is Layla Corsino’s brother (In the Crossfire).
Told from dual first person perspectives (Faith and Dominic) DANGEROUS GAME follows in the aftermath of Faith’s discovery that her husband and fellow attorney was having an affair. When it became apparent that her ex-husband made prior plans to take everything and more, Faith found herself under the protection of Mafia boss Dominic Corsino, a man who has been in love with Faith for close to ten years. But all is not well in Dominic’s world, and the recent death of his father left a gaping hole for control in the underworld, a world from which Dominic was hoping to get out.What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Faith and Dominic, and the fall-out as Faith is targeted when a rival mob boss wars for control.
Dominic Corsino is a reluctant Mafia boss having assumed his position with the death of his father but trying to go legitimate is much harder than expected especially when threats against Faith pull Dominic further into the lifestyle he was hoping to avoid. Faith Hilliard knows all about Dominic’s world. Best friends with his sister Layla, Faith is well aware of Dominic’s lifestyle, a lifestyle of which she is about to be exposed.
The relationship between Faith and Dominic is a friends to lovers romance, one in which our hero has been in love with Faith for a very long time. Faith has been unaware of Dom’s attraction but is willing to enter into a relationship within days of discovering her husband’s affairs. Dominic is desperate to protect the woman with whom he is in love but our heroine oft-times makes it difficult when her TSTL (too stupid to live) actions place herself and everyone else in danger. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters from both the Armed and Dangerous, and Circle of Justice series including Faith’s best friend, and FBI agent Reed Chandler, as well as Layla Corsino and her husband ( and Reed’s brother) Bryce Chandler; Dominic’s uncle Marco, and his son Luca; bodyguard Isaiah; Micah Perry; Connor MacCabe; underground fighters Taylor Benning, and Darius McKinney; mobsters Cadoc and his son William Cartwright.
DANGEROUS GAME is a story of family, betrayal, vengeance and death; a story of power and control; of romance and love. The premise is engaging and captivating; the characters are colorful, energetic and dynamic; the romance is seductive and consuming. DANGEROUS GAME is a fast paced and animated addition to the author’s series.
