Danville and Boyle County

Boyle County and its principal city and seat of government, Danville, lie in the most beautiful rolling countryside of all of central Kentucky. Before the area was settled, however, it was described as “a howling wilderness,” covered with forests and great canebreaks. But early settlers, many of whom were displaced from their homelands by laws of primogeniture, could readily see how vast and rich was the land. Today in the Commonwealth, Boyle County has one of the largest concentrations of properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
