Publisher Description
Story Comics, a publisher during the Golden Age of comic books, was known for its four popular series, Dark Mysteries, Fight Against Crime, Mysterious Adventures and Romantic Hearts. By this time, comic books had become relatively mainstream and the illustrations were becoming a respected art form. This time period helped to codify the aesthetic and vocabulary that remains popular in comic books to this day.
Story Comics’ series Dark Mysteries blends the horror and detective genres, creating stories with handsome heroes and damsels in distress who battle fantastical sea monsters and cunning murderers. Most stories involve terrifying skeletons or other forms of the undead.
Lou Cameron, one of the comic industry’s most beloved illustrators, contributed to Dark Mysteries in his early career. Jon D’Agostino, who went on to pen The Amazing Spiderman in 1963, also contributed regularly to Dark Mysteries. This Anthology includes 17 of the original 25 issues published between June 1951 and July 1955.
