Publisher Description
A dark roast can be deadly…
Lainey Boggins is desperate to report a story that's more interesting than a church bake-off. But sleepy mountain town Aurora Heights is hardly the place for murder and mayhem. The biggest story of the week is the opening of a new cat café, which Lainey reluctantly agrees to cover.
But when the town's beloved mayor drops dead at the cafe's opening, the town is shocked. His death is ruled an accident, but Lainey isn't convinced.
Now, Lainey is thrust into a web of lies that she can't untangle. It turns out the jolly old mayor wasn't so jolly after all, and he had a lot more secrets than Lainey bargained for. With the help of Dylan, the cute café owner, and even cuter detective, Nick DeLuca, she's unraveling the mayor's private life and finding out his secrets. But if Lainey isn't careful, she could be next.

Great cozy mystery
Lainey Boggins wants to be a reporter of big stories but so far in the small town of Aurora Heights, big news is a pie contest. Then she is asked to cover the opening of a cat coffee cafe of which her high school crush is the owner. Unfortunately for the cafe and the mayor, the mayor drops dead from anaphylactic shock right after drinking his coffee. Well she has her story or does she.
This is a great, humorous cozy mystery with romantic undertones. The characters are small town kooky, full of life and with great personalities that draw you into the story and into their lives. The mystery, if there is one (because only Lainey thinks there is more to it) is full of surprises, unexpected twist, numerous suspects and a multitude of clues, keep you engaged and interested until the end. Lainey is a great character with so much enthusiasm and potential that she will make a great reporter/amateur detective that should make for many more wonderful cozy mysteries. I am already looking forward to the next one.
