PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Romantic suspense maven Orchard (Shades of Truth) plunges readers into the fray immediately in this first of the Port Aster Secrets series. Kate Adams demands that Det. Tom Parker reopen the investigation into her colleague Daisy Leacock's death, setting in motion a tale that careens from suspect to suspect and action to action in nearly uncontrollable fashion. Kate harbors suspicions about a lengthy string of possible killers, believing that one of them switched the ingredients of the herbal tea that led to the botanist's death. Stakeouts, possible bombs, ignored advice, betrayal, and even a very public allergic reaction keep up the breakneck pace of this tale as Adams and Parker try to uncover a killer and, perhaps, a little romance as well. The writing is uber-dramatic ("Tom hammered his escalating urgency into the question...") and the action hectic. Fans looking for a quick read and a unique mystery will surely enjoy it.
Customer Reviews
Great story from the get go!
I was excited to read this book and I was not disappointed. I caught up in the story right from the get go. The only drawback for me was that not everything is resolved by the end and the story will obviously be continued in the next book in the series. I prefer it when one person's story is neatly wrapped up in a single book and the next one is related, but not the same characters wrapping up problems from the first book, but I'm still glad I read it. I'm also glad I didn't know this before I started or I might not have. There is definitely enough going on to cross over to another book, and I look forward to reading it. If you like Irene Hannon or Lynette Eason you should give this book a try. This book has been provided courtesy of Baker Publishing Group and Graf-Martin Communications, Inc.
