Destined to Ride Alone

Fifteen-year-old, Jimmy Yeager’s entire world is thrown into turmoil when he joins several dozen other children who are placed on an Orphan Train in New York City. As the train chugs Westward, Reverend Charles Embry, of the Children’s Aid Society, promises young Jimmy that he will find him a good home.


In his brief but eventful time upon this earth, Yeager’s life has been marked by loss, disappointment, and loneliness. Jimmy watches out the railroad car window, as the locomotive clatters down the track with homes and civilization becoming more scattered; he wonders what kind of world awaits him in the West.


Adopted by a stoic, aged farmer, the possessor of old secrets and a once-vibrant, young wife, Jimmy fears his life of misfortune is only just beginning.
