Since birth, Kit Mallory (Mallory Kit) has been a child of two worlds. As the prophesied offspring of an empiric queen and the figurehead of a rebel alliance, she was supposed to heal the wounds of a centuries-old political feud.

Kit has spent most of her adult life running from her responsibilities. Preordained as the next empiric queen, she had no talent for politics and no appetite for power.
