I Followed him. Watched him. Stalked him.
As a detective, it was my job. Jake Cryson was the best lead I had to getting information on the trafficking ring I'd been trying to bring down for the past year. He was the key. I could feel it in my bones.
But I got caught...
...And now he has me.
My name is Detective Laila Ashby, and this is only the beginning of my story.

Captivating
This is the 3rd book in the Darker Places series by this author. You’ll want to read this series in order to get the most out of this series. The story revolves around Jake and Laila. She is investigating Jake because she believes he is heading a sex trafficking ring. When she is taken, Jake tries to find out wants who leaked the information that prompted the investigation as Laila lied about her name and who she was. Now that he knows, he has to figure out what to do with her. When they met, he was attracted to her but now he knows she was investigating him. It’s hard to know which side your feelings are on with Jake - on the one hand he appears to be lacking any human goodness and his moral compass points south instead,of North, but we feel the struggle. This story ends on a cliffhanger which makes Laila’s current predicament more stressful: will she survive the ordeal or not and will we know before the cliff. I like Laila’s characters - she’s scared but full of fire.
