Publisher Description

What do you do when the guy you’ve talked to for weeks on a dating app doesn’t show up when you finally agree to meet, and then ghosts you? You block him and forget about him, of course. That’s exactly what Hollie did, and then she took it a step further by deleting the app entirely.

So what if her thirty-fifth birthday is looming and her life looks completely different than she expected it would? Who has time for dating and romance these days anyway? Not Hollie—her job as manager at the local food bank keeps her busy, as do her three best friends. That’s all she really needs in life.

Or so she convinces herself until a tall, dark, and handsome Brit walks into her life. Hollie can’t figure out why the handsome stranger seems so familiar until it hits her: Spencer is no stranger. He’s the guy who ghosted her on the dating app all those weeks ago.

Spencer’s explanation of what happened that night cracks the armor around Hollie’s heart, and seeing him again stirs up all kinds of old feelings. When he proposes a do-over of sorts, Hollie accepts. There’s just one caveat: he’s only interested in being friends.

As the pair reconnect, Spencer lights Hollie up in ways she never expected. They share pieces of themselves they’ve never shown anyone else, and their chemistry is undeniable. It doesn’t take long for Hollie to realize friendship isn’t enough for her. In her heart, she believes Spencer feels the same, but he runs so hot and cold, and befuddles her with mixed signals.

As her birthday approaches and Spencer informs her he’ll be returning to England soon, Hollie has to either find the courage to go after what she wants or walk away from Spencer for good. Either choice could end in heartbreak. Happy freakin’ birthday to her.

*Do-Overs & Mixed Signals is a friends-to-lovers, second-chance, found family romantic comedy set in the fictional town of Bellevue, Ontario, Canada. Full of banter, crackling chemistry, and plenty of swoons, this is a kissing-only romance with mild language. It's the third book in the Best Friends & Birthdays series, and can be read as a standalone.

Found family at its finest

“At it’s heart, Hollie’s story is one about family: the one you’re born into and the one you make along the way.” This quote from the author’s notes really summed up my thoughts after reading this lovely story. I enjoyed it very much! The romance is still an essential part of the story and the found family, but there is so much more to the story than that. After connecting on a dating app, Spencer fails to show up for his arranged first meeting with Hollie. When they get a second chance, Spencer asks to just be friends as there is too much happening in his life, but his constant mixed signals indicate that he, like Hollie, wants more. At the same time Hollie, grapples with helping a young employee who has a difficult home life very similar to Hollie’s life growing up. The friend group in this series is so special and especially seeing them from the perspective of Hollie’s story, since they really are her family, whereas the first two featured friends have other family too. It was fun to see them all interacting. And I loved seeing how Hollie helped Jordy and the glimpses into Hollie’s past it provided. I was very invested in the situation. Spencer is another nice guy to add to the group, and he really shows up in helping too. The romance isn’t quite as front and centre in this plot, but it is still very important. Spencer clearly wants to be with Hollie…he just has to get out of his own way. “‘You deserve someone who leaves no doubt how they feel about you. You deserve to be loved - completely, unconditionally, and forever.’” This book also provided more set-up for book four, and I am looking forward to it. While this is book three in a series about a group of friends, it can be read as a standalone. I would definitely recommend reading the series in order, however, as the friendships are so integral to the storyline and carry throughout the series. Heavy topics in this story include parental abandonment and neglect, alcohol abuse, death, grief, and poverty. This is a closed door story with some innuendo and a very small amount of mild harsh language.
