A very personal autobiography of a young man who grew up in a middle class family in South Minneapolis in the fifties. By various strokes of fate he ends up as an artillery officer serving with the 7/13 Artillery Battalion in Vietnam. As a second lieutenant his first assignment is to serve as a forward observer with Charlie Company 1/50th Mechanized Infantry. At the time of his service the 1/50th was attached to the First Cavalry Division and operated primarily in Binh Dinh Province. Within 5-6 weeks in the field he loses all hope of ever seeing his family again.
