Donny Quinn

In a quiet Philadelphia suburb, seventeen-year-old Donny Quinn wants what all teenagers want- to be a part of the society of his peers. Every attempt, however, is rejected and mocked, pushing him closer and closer to despair. Brandon Evans and his goons harass and torture him until his only refuge is Turgon, the warrior hero living and breathing between the pages of the fantasy fiction series Dragonblade. When Donny turns back the cover, he sees a world so foreign to his own, a world where good defeats evil. He longs to be a part of that world. He needs to be a part of that world. But it’s impossible- or is it?
Sean, Donny’s only friend and neighbor, also yearns for such a place. His father’s death haunts the dark corners of his house, and Sean goes to Donny to escape the painful reality of his father’s absence. Together, they recreate themselves in Turgon’s image and stage mock battles in wooded lots, all for fun. But when Brandon and his crew pay a visit to Donny’s job at a retro 50’s burger joint, their cruelty transforms Donny into the hero he so admires. Brandon’s bullying finally has erased the line between what is real and what is fantasy, and now Donny must compel Sean to join him in a true mission to destroy evil.
Dressed in black and armed with martial arts weapons, Sean lets Donny lead him to the abandoned NIKE base, thinking it was just another night of play acting. Donny, however, knows Brandon and his friends were there drinking beer. He wants revenge. He wants to destroy evil. By the time Sean realizes Donny’s intentions are real, it’s too late. Donny finally strikes out and kills his first victim, scattering the rest to be stalked one by one and one until they’re all gone. Sean pursues Donny in an effort to stop him, but only by reaching deep within himself will he find the strength to save his friend and survive.
