A short story about Dr. James Michaelson, a physicist working in a new private laboratory on a revolutionary technology — a way to reconstruct visual reality from recorded sound.

Michaelson is part of a three-person team: the lead and creator of the technology, Dr. Garrison; magnetic theorist Dr. Johnson; and himself. Their work promises discoveries that could change science forever.

But something is wrong at the lab.

They seem to be rather light on attendance today. No one has called. No one has explained. The building feels empty, and Michaelson cannot shake the feeling that something has gone terribly, horribly wrong.

As he searches for answers, he begins to uncover what their technology has truly revealed — and why some discoveries may never have been meant to be seen.
