Publisher Description

History Hub presents a captivating look into a brief history of East India Company from beginning to end, one of history’s critical events worthy to discover.

Britain established the East India Company in 1600 to participate in the East India spice trade. Queen Elizabeth I, through a royal charter, granted a group of merchants the rights to trade in the East Indies on behalf of the Crown. The trade was previously monopolized by Spain and Portugal until the Spanish Armada’s defeat in 1588 that handed trade dominance to England. From its creation until 1612, the Company conducted numerous voyages that were also subscripted separately. The rest of Europe had an appetite for exotic goods like spices, textiles, and jewelry pieces from the East. However, sea travels to the East Indies were tremendously risky ventures. Aside from the harsh weather conditions, there are the threats of armed clashes with rival traders and the spread of deadly diseases. The Spanish, Portuguese, and the Dutch have also established their East India companies at that time. An employee of the Company has only had a 30% mortality right, according to historians. Due to the monopoly being supported by the royal charter, London merchants were protected against domestic competition while also giving back funds to the Crown, who was in desperate need of financing. As several commercial products were introduced, the Company enforced unethical methods (that can now be called acts against human rights) that generated rage and resentment from its partners. The anger resulted in a revolution that dissolved one of the greatest corporations to ever grace the world.
