Exceptionally helpful!
OMG this book is soooo helpful in so many ways! I think it should be mandatory reading at the beginning of grade 7 provided that is followed by mandatory counselling for the rest of that school year. The costs of prevention are considerably less than the costs of attempting repair.
I have spent almost 30 years around social workers and counsellors with all levels of education, training, and personal experience in volunteer, employment, and personal relationships. While I learned some great COPING tools, I did not learn that I needed to stop allowing the craziness, chaos, and constant crises to run my life. So now my daughter lives with the effects of those. Stopping the physical abuse is really just a minor part of what needs to happen to stop the dysfunction for the next generation.
This book confirms what the Psychologist that got through to me said and did to help me get the craziness to stop so I could see clearly HOW to turn all the great words I'd learned into actual practice. Its not enough to give your children better, you need to learn to give yourself better because children learn from what you model. Find a counsellor that knows how to do life in a normal way with appropriate boundaries, ethics, and morals. Let them model what you need to learn so you can model it for the next generations.
