Mark Twain was the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, an American writer, humorist, and entrepreneur born in 1835 in Florida, Missouri. He grew up in Hannibal, Missouri, which would later inspire some of his most famous works, including "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

After working as a printer's apprentice and a riverboat pilot, Twain traveled west and worked as a miner, reporter, and lecturer. He began writing humorous stories and essays in the late 1860s, which were widely popular and helped establish him as a literary figure.

Twain's most famous works include "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" (1876), "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" (1884), and "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" (1889). His writing was known for its humor, satire, and social commentary, often skewering the hypocrisy and injustices of American society.

In addition to his writing, Twain was also a successful businessman, investing in several ventures, including a publishing company and a typesetting machine. However, his business ventures ultimately led him to financial ruin in the 1890s.

Twain continued to write and lecture until his death in 1910 at the age of 74. He remains one of the most beloved and influential American writers of all time, known for his wit, humor, and keen insight into the human condition.
