Exhausting
Like its predecessor, Executive Orders is much, much…much too long. Long novels can be enjoyable, but this isn't one of them. More than three quarters of the story is a tediously slow burn, full of excessive and unnecessary detail that sets up what is ultimately an anti-climactic, predictable and excruciatingly long ending. To be fair, about 30% of the book is outstanding! Anything dealing with Jack Ryan or John/Ding is a welcome reprieve from the otherwise dull story arc and meandering sub-plots that seem to have little impact on the final outcome. Unlike most of Clancy's earlier books, which I've read numerous times, I can't imagine ever wanting to attempt this one again.
