Fast paced, entertaining, engaging
3.75stars-FEARFUL MATE is the ninth instalment in Jade Marshall’s contemporary, adult KAT WOLVES erotic, paranormal, romance series. This is Thomas and Lola’s story line. FEARFUL MATE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Lola and Thomas) FEARFUL MATE follows in the aftermath of the rejection by her fated mate of our story line heroine. On her eighteenth birthday Lola becomes aware that the Thorn Pack alpha Silas is her fated mate but at his rejection proclamation, Lola spirals and in the ensuing time reconsiders her future with the pack. Fast forward two years, Lola embarks on a new journey, asking for asylum with the Katu Pack where she will find a new fated mate, a man who had endured years of torture and abuse at the hands of the Hunters but the Hunters want Thomas back, and take aim at the Katu Pack.
The world building focuses on betrayal and rejection as Lola starts a new life with our story line hero but all is not well in the world of shifters, as they are targeted for who and what they are, and Lola will quickly discover a betrayal by someone from her past.
The relationship between Lola and Thomas is one of fated mates: an immediate recognition between two people fearing rejection and heart break but a mating that reveals much more than Thomas could have ever imagined. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Lola’s parents, as well as her former Alpha Silas, and the return of the members of the Katu Pack including Alpha Caine and his mate Peyton; Godrick, Emmaleigh, Iris and her mates Sayer and Raleigh; and Iris’ brother Aaron.
