Irish mob hitman is hot and suspenseful
Moira, aka Genevieve, is a British intelligence agent with a secret. One even the agency does not know and now she can finally find out who was responsible for bombing the church the day her entire family was killed. Except that means going back to Dublin to confront the Irish mob family of the man she fell in love with on her job in Boston when she was investigating his uncle’s business dealings there. Lar Delaney thinks she was killed in the bombing that took his brother’s life.
There was a lot of backstory to establish to help the reader understand the complex and relationships and history of the families involved and it does slow the beginning somewhat. It is necessary and worth it though because otherwise you won’t be able to follow the faster paced suspense that follows. And you will definitely want to.
While Lar is an Irish mob enforcer and occasional hitman, you can’t help but like him. He is not a good person but he does have a code. He never kills women and children and always makes sure his target is actually guilty. He also has a lot of secrets himself. Moira should appear to be a good person but with all her secrets and inability to show emotion, she is the perfect fit for Lars. She isn’t quite as good as she seems. Both have a lot of scars emotionally and have suffered a great deal of loss. Yet in each other, they have finally found someone they can actually be themselves around.
Then there is the suspenseful backdrop of trying to solve several old murders, Moira’s and Lar’s families, as well as the more recent one in Boston all before Lar’s uncle pulls the plug and has Moira killed as he believes she is responsible for the Boston bombing. It is a suspenseful race against time and one where it looks like time will run out before they find the answer.
