Under the watchful eyes of her instructors, she and her cadet crew must pilot a corvette spacecraft across the galaxy, touch down on a remote alien world and return safely.

But when Cassi disobeys orders and investigates a distress call, she leads her crew into a trap, and a disaster of a crash on the surface of an uninhabited world.

With the only qualified astronauts locked in survival stasis, Cassi is promoted into her first command—rank, authority, and responsibility.

Food and water are in short supply. Their spacecraft hull is compromised. Rescue is light-years away.

And pirates are in pursuit.

Seeking the safety of a remote survey outpost, Cassi must lead her crew across hostile ground seething with predators...
