Publisher Description

First Pacific was considering entry into the consumer products industry in Indonesia via the purchase of a 30 per cent share in Indofood Sukses Makmur. Nissin Foods of Japan would also acquire a 30 per cent stake in this proposed joint venture-acquisition. This case is the third part of the First Pacific case series, and it can be used to examine business-level decisions that were made as part of the restructuring program First Pacific instituted in 1998 and 1999. The crisis First Pacific faced in late 1997 is outlined in the first case of the series, First Pacific (A): Responding to the Asian Crisis (9A99M033). The second case in the series, First Pacific (B): Restructuring After Crisis (9A99M034), details the implementation of the strategy First Pacific formulated as a response to the Asian economic crisis.
