Publisher Description
Winner of both the Hugo and Nebula Awards, the powerful, classic story about a man who receives an operation that turns him into a genius...and introduces him to heartache.
Charlie Gordon is about to embark upon an unprecedented journey. Born with an unusually low IQ, he has been chosen as the perfect subject for an experimental surgery that researchers hope will increase his intelligence-a procedure that has already been highly successful when tested on a lab mouse named Algernon.
As the treatment takes effect, Charlie's intelligence expands until it surpasses that of the doctors who engineered his metamorphosis. The experiment appears to be a scientific breakthrough of paramount importance, until Algernon suddenly deteriorates. Will the same happen to Charlie?

A must-read
I always loved this book ever since I first read it when I was a teenager but reading it again it's a lot more sexist towards the women in the story than I remembered. Obviously I didn't like that, but despite romance and women being central themes to the story it wasn't the MAIN draw or message so I'm able to look past it to see everything the book does right.
It's sad, but in a way that helps change the perspective you may have on people less fortunate than you.
I appreciated how easy it was to read even in its most "complex" parts. I do wish we somehow had the technology or medicine to see something like this in real life.
