Chester the Crab meets some of the people who helped create the United States of America as a bold and independent nation. Sometimes that creation of a new kind of government was messy. There were fights and arguments. The biographies of these people — Patrick Henry, John Marshall, George Washington — also show how they set in motion debates that we still have today about what it means to be American. Your reluctant reader will love this funny, colorful graphic novel! The reading level for this comic is third grade and up. These stories originally appeared as an educational feature in the Daily Press newspaper in Newport News, Virginia. Bentley Boyd wrote and drew the Chester the Crab adventures for the paper between 1995 and 2008. He is a History and Literature graduate of Harvard University and publisher of Chester Comix, LLC. He is surrounded by many patriotic symbols in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he resides.
