Publisher Description
There’s no end to the drama when Lia stumbles on a dead diva.
Talented and charismatic Dr. Geoffrey Lawrence has manipulated students and staff at Hopewell Music Conservatory for years, destroying lives and careers at whim. No one knows this better than Hannah Kleemeyer, the school admin who plays nanny for the professor’s trio of adorable dogs and is witness to the school’s secrets.
Lia’s mural commission at Hopewell and her friendship with Hannah place her at the center of the drama when the Machiavellian voice professor is murdered, drama heightened by the theatrical tendencies of the suspects and further complicated by the terms of the professor’s will.
The solution to Lawrence’s murder lies with his many victims, but the detectives assigned to the case are more suited to rousting gang-bangers than eliciting shameful secrets. Meanwhile, a mysterious informant is determined to involve Lia’s beau, Detective Peter Dourson. It’s a case Peter can’t touch now that Cincinnati has created a centralized unit to handle homicides. Hamstrung by departmental politics and with the assigned detectives barking up the wrong tree, it will take Lia and her dog park friends to unravel the truth.

Couldn’t put it down. Great book
Every time I thought I knew where the story was headed, a new character or situation was thrown my way. In addition to the main plot, which was the death of a music instructor, there were side plots as well. These were very interesting and added to the overall story. The setting, a music academy, was different than most and we got to be a fly on the wall and see the political shenanigans that went on in that institution as the characters tried to understand the deceased and potential suspects.
Although this book is a cosy mystery, it is also in part a police procedural. We were also treated to bureaucratic politics in that institution and both the very competent detectives and the incompetents. Power struggles, personality clashes, departmental regulations are seamlessly woven into the action. Characters had to decide whether to follow procedure or protect loved ones.
There was so much happening in this book, so many interesting characters - from melodramatic teenage music students, to wealthy parents, to greedy board members, bumbling detectives, dogs, a blackmailer ... the list goes on. Somehow it all fits together perfectly. An entertaining read that has action, suspense, romance, and humour. I had no idea who did it until the very end. Loved it!
