German Short Stories for Beginners

German Short Stories for Beginners is a collection of twenty-five original easy readers written for learners at the A1 and A2 level. The stories are short — most fit comfortably into a single sitting — and follow named, recurring kinds of characters through small, recognisable scenes: a Berlin morning over coffee, a lost key, a quiet Sunday at the bakery, a snowfall outside a country window, a Munich-bound train, a grandfather's workshop, a Hamburg night.
Each story is followed by a glossary of the new vocabulary it introduced, comprehension notes that point at the grammar points the story leaned on, and a short set of practice questions. The book is built so that a reader can pick up almost any story independently — they do not need to be read in order — and finish with both a sense of accomplishment and a small permanent gain in their German.
The appendices supply reading strategies for German learners, cultural and historical anchors that explain references inside the stories, a themed vocabulary master list, an idioms appendix, a twelve-week reading plan, a self-assessment, and several bonus reading passages for learners who finish the main twenty-five and want more.
