Shâlonze-Létian, a ninth-grade student, was an outstanding student at Georgetown University this summer of 2012. She earned a ninety-six on the midterm and a hundred on the finals. She gave her Congressional debate at Georgetown University. She met senators; in fact, she dined with Bob Casey where she discussed principles of the current minimum wage. JSA students pass and fail bills. Some of them, like the voting law, are passed through Congress. She attended a presentation at the Pentagon. She visited senators at the Capital building. Senator Joe Garcia invited her group to a Congressional debate at Capitol Hill. She road in the private underground train that government officials ride. She visited the Newseum where there are exhibits of real news stories. A few selected students from all over the world get accepted into JSA. Shalonze-Létian Mivens was one of the few based on her outstanding grades, academic performances, and interests in making a positive difference.
