Max Wald is a "half-blood" mahrine -- an outcast from the Romany community -- who lives by his wits, his charm with women, and freelance assignments from Hollywood studios. When parts of an unreleased late 1930's von Sternberg movie The Tango Dancer are discovered 50 years later, Paradigm Pictures hires Max to find the missing sequences. Max plays up his "Gypsy" connections to assure the studio execs that he can locate the handsome young gypsy who played the male lead and who, if still living, might know the whereabouts of the missing film.


Events take unexpected turns, as Max reconnects with his Romany grandfather, locates the reclusive "ice goddess" star from The Tango Dancer, and finds -- to his own amazement -- that love can make him honest.
