Harriet and Wyn were the “it” couple among their friends, so they can’t bring themselves to announce that they have actually broken up. Months ago. Now they’re being thrown together for a week in Maine with their friend group, forcing them to keep up a charade that proves far more challenging than either of them expected. Emily Henry is one of our favorite romantic-comedy writers—Happy Place is packed with witty dialogue, sunny beach scenes, luscious lobster feasts, and wonderfully comforting portraits of longtime friendship. Her protagonists are the beating heart of the novel, and we loved piecing together the story of their relationship through frequent flashbacks. Sweet, poignant, and sometimes painful, Happy Place is a funny, sensitive story about what it really means to split up.

Couldn’t put this down
Guilty pleasure read. Loved the story!
The characters did feel a little too similar to People We Meet on Vacation. But besides that I loved the plot. Didn’t intend on liking it as much as I did
Terrible Chick Lit
I have read lots of great chick lits but this was definitely not one of them. I thought because it was rated by Sunday Times as a bestseller, it would be good but it lacks humour, likeable characters (including the main character of the story) or much of a plausible plot. It started out fine but got worst for me as the book went on. There were many things I didn’t like about the book and much of the story bothered me but I can’t pinpoint anything without giving away the events of the book. The plot was weak, the main character was annoying, the ending anticlimactic and, really, the revelation of the main characters near the end just didn’t make sense and is not in keeping with the times that we are living in right now. I think the author tried to give the characters depth and the plot substance but, in my opinion, achieved neither. I didn’t enjoy the book at all and, in fact, had to skip parts of it in order to get through it faster (and because I got bored with it) and I don’t think that skipping those parts even mattered to the plot of the book. It is too bad that I haven’t read any of Emily Henry’s other books before this one because, after this one, I will not be reading any of her other books.
