Hate isn't the opposite of love
That is not at all the direction I was expecting this book to take. I was already half in love with Luca from reading him in Heart of a Thief. After reading this book, I've fallen the rest of the way. Ivy was a little tougher for me to get a handle on. She believed Luca had hurt her on purpose and so she pours a lot of energy into hating him and wanting to get even. Which, while I can understand why she wants to do this, it didn't endear her to me until we got a lot further into the book. The reason why Luca's a liar is a doozy and since it's the heart of the book it would be a big, ugly spoiler if I said anything more about it. I've heard it said that hate isn't the opposite of love, it's apathy. You can see that at work here. Even though Ivy's trying so hard to hate Luca, there's still so much energy crackling between them it nearly melted my reader. I'm not so sure that these two are a perfect pairing, but their life together will never be boring.
