On March 30, 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (H.R. 4872), supplementing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590), which had been sinned a week earlier, and completing passage of an expansive health care reform package. The political battle surrounding passage of the package nevertheless continues. Led by a new Republican majority, the House of Representatives earlier voted to repeal the legislation largely along party lines, and when Republicans brought a similar measure up for a vote in the Senate, it also failed to pass. Even if it were to pass, President Obama almost certainly would veto it.
