Description de l’éditeur
5 stars, Liz Konkel of Readers' Favorite: The story has an upbeat tone that is typical of the cozy genre though Winter adds a unique quality to it through the use of herbs. The characters are charming and help establish the endearing aesthetic of the town while also giving a long list of suspects. A delightful start to a new series, this book blends a cozy mystery with herbalism and second chances.

Herbs and Homicide
Very well written.
3,75stars-fast paced, quick and easy
3.75stars- HERBS AND HOMICIDE is the first instalment in Carly Winter’s contemporary, adult HEYWOOD HERBALIST cozy mystery series focusing on fifty-something, former Hollywood actress Samantha Rathbone aka Sam Jones.
Told from first person point of view (Sam) HERBS AND HOMICIDE follows in the wake of the murder of herbalist and Sage Advice owner Bonnie. Heywood Arizona is a small town where everyone knows everyone, is connected through friendship or blood, and with the announcement of Bonnie’s murder, everyone becomes suspect in Sam Jones’ mind. Samantha Rathbone aka Sam Jones thought her life was perfect; a well respected Hollywood actress who was about to become the victim of her husband’s lifestyle including his fall from grace and eventual murder. Moving to Heywood Arizona meant anonymity and peace, working for the local herbalist at Sage Advice but one morning, store owner Bonnie doesn’t show up for work, and Samantha aka Sam is the first person to find the body, with a knife in her chest. As the prime suspect, Sam knows if her true identity is revealed, there would be no peace in Heywood Arizona, so Sam sets out to find the truth, starting first with Bonnie’s angry and estranged daughter. As Sam begins to ‘investigate’ the people who knew Bonnie the best, everyone becomes suspect including Sam herself.
HERBS AND HOMICIDE is a fast paced, quick read that follows the standard cozy mystery format. The murder is off page; the details and break down are behind the scenes; there are no gore, guts or glory just the usual small town suspects, angry friends or relatives, secrets and lies, accusations, betrayal and vengeance. The premise is entertaining and intriguing; the characters are numerous, colorful and energetic.
We are introduced to Sam’s co-worker Annabelle, farm owners Charlie and Doreen, esthetician Gina, Bonnie’s daughter Catherine, Deputy Jordan Branson, Sheriff Mallory Richards, and Attorney Colin Breckshire.
