Publisher Description
From New York Times bestselling author Betina Krahn comes a sparkling new historical romance series that will ignite your spirit, and your heart . . .
When dashing, determined bachelor Rafe Townsend, and beautiful, impetuous Lauren Alcott are trapped into an engagement by their powerful business magnate fathers, their attraction suggests there may be pleasurable compensations to matrimony after all. Until an outing together puts a damper on their future . . .
Lauren is appalled when Rafe refuses to help two women whose boat has overturned on a river. Stripping her outer clothing, she dives in to rescue them herself—delighting a nearby reporter. Soon newspapers and scandal sheets have labeled Rafe as “less than heroic,” for all of London to see, while Lauren is viewed by many as brazen. Besieged by scandalous rumors, and with both their reputations in the balance, what ensues is a prickly scheme that will either forge a partnership of deception—or blaze a path to true love . . .

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The busy, suspenseful Victorian-era romance that launches Krahn's new series (after Anyone but a Duke) puts a betrothed couple through the wringer to prove their compatibility. Lauren Alcott's engagement to Rafe Townsend was arranged by their fathers, who hope their union will save both families' shipping businesses. But when, on an outing, Lauren leaps to rescue two women from drowning while Rafe stands by, her heroic act earns her the moniker of Angel of the River and leaves Rafe labeled a coward by the press. Unable to stomach being with an unheroic man, Lauren calls off the engagement, upsetting both of their fathers, threatening their businesses, and causing a scandal. But that shock is soon eclipsed when Rafe and Lauren are assaulted, kidnapped, and held for ransom. With their lives in danger, each sees a side of the other they had not previously known. Rafe and Lauren are memorable characters, but their budding romance is somewhat overshadowed by the constant turmoil. Still, the mystery of who's behind their abduction is invigorating, and the secrets, lies, and danger keep the pages turning. This will best suit readers who like plenty of action mixed in with their romance.

Love the cover and the story
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. Hero Wanted by Betina Krahn is the first book in her captivating new series Reluctant Heroes.
Lauren Alcott’s father has arranged an engagement for her with Rafe Townsend in order to cement a business merger. She’s been willing to go along with the idea even though she finds Rafe pompous and boring until the day he refuses to act when a mother and daughter are in danger of drowning from a boating accident. She rescues the pair herself and ends her betrothal to Rafe after calling him a coward. Her father and Rafe’s father stand to lose everything without the merger of their companies so she and Rafe agree to pretend a courtship until the situation can be resolved and along the way Rafe discovers that he does want to be her hero. The story is quite exciting with adventures, and kidnapping, nasty villains and just the right amount of steam. I enjoyed reading this book immensely and the cover is simply awesome. Highly Recommend. Steam Level: Medium.
