Famed and brilliant, Lady Alexandra Lane has always known how to look out for to herself. But nobody would ever expect that she has darkness in her past—one that she pays a blackmailer to keep buried. Now, with her family nearing bankruptcy, Alexandra strikes upon a solution: Get married to one of the empire’s most wealthy eligible bachelors. Even if he does have the reputation of a devil.
LOVE TAKES NO PRISONERS
Piers Gedrick Atherton, the Duke of Redmayne, is seeking revenge and the first step is securing a bride. Winning a lady’s hand is not so easy, however, for a man known as the Terror of Torcliff. Then, Alexandra enters his life like a bolt of lightning. When she proposes marriage, Piers knows that, like him, trouble haunts her footsteps. But her gentleness, sharp wit, independent nature, and incredible beauty awakens every fierce desire within him. He will do whatever it takes to keep her safe in his arms.

This was my first Byrne Kerrigan's book, and won't be my last. This is the first book in he Devil You Know Series. OMG! I love this dark historical romance! All the characters are great. Alexandra is a beautiful and strong character. Her past is heartbreaking. I love Piers. He is handsome, bossy, alpha, but also loving, caring and protective. They are perfect together, and their chemistry is strong. Alexandra's friends, Cecilia and Francesca, are beautiful. I love their friendship. The storyline is absolutely captivating, filled with mystery, and secrets. This book is also available in audiobook, and I would love to revisit it this way. I highly recommend this story. Now, I'm looking forward for the next book in the series, and for more books written by this author.
A Marriage of Convenience becomes something more
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. How To Love A Duke In Ten Days is the first book in Kerrigan Byrne’s new series The Devil You Know.
As schoolgirls three young friends are embroiled in danger and secrets that mark their lives and strengthen the bonds between them. Although Lady Alexandra Lane’s secret hasn’t prevented her from pursing higher education and becoming Dr. Lane a graduate of the Sorbonne and and well known archaeologist and historian it still affects her almost every action from her manner of dress to her ability to sleep at night and her finances. Piers Gedrick Atherton, Duke of Redmayne desires to marry in order to produce an heir or two and thwart the ambitions of his cousin and heir who is now married to the woman who betrayed him. Not overly concerned with whom he marries he has invoked a betrothal agreement arranged by his father. Alexandra arrives at Castle Redmayne in response to the urgent request of her dear friend Countess Francesca Cavendish to be her bridesmaid and because she fears she is in danger. Understanding that Francesca and the duke are unsuited to find happiness together and since she finds herself in need of a husband, Alexandra proposes a marriage of convenience to the duke. When murder, betrayal, blackmail and mysterious attempts on their lives follow these two on their honeymoon their marriage of convenience becomes something more. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to reading the rest of the series.
