Milton Layte went to work as a logger at age 16, and went on to excel in trades that included heavy equipment operator, tractor trailer operator and mechanic.

A man of great ambition, who grew up in the little community of Birchy Bay, Notre Dame Bay, Newfoundland, Milton  went on to progress rapidly as an entrepreneur. He became owner or part owner of a pulpwood harvesting operation, an apartment building, a shopping mall, and eventually a Honda dealership in Gander, and two Hyundai dealerships, one in Gander, and one in Grand Falls-Windsor.
