In My Father's Shadow

Anne Conrad grows up spending summers on the coast of Maine at "Sea Swept," the Conrad family cottage. Returning each year, her first thoughts are of Harry Jensen who is part playmate, part grand-father and part confidant. Harry is the kind of man everyone wants to know and those that do know they are fortunate. 

Anne is in Boston working for a small, prestigious, publishing house when a devastating personal loss spirals her into a fog of uncertainty. Relationships are strained when Anne challenges their sincerity. Returning to her roots on the coast of Maine, Anne finds in Harry the anchor that moors her and provides the foundation on which she can rebuild. 

"Sea Swept" and Harry are the final destination in Anne's journey. A sense of place and a love for it validates, for Anne, that the most incredible journey of discovery is the one that brings you home. 


Barry S. Jandebeur was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and traveled the world as the son of a U.S. Naval officer. He left home and came to Maine at the age of 16. After a tour in Vietnam with the Marine Corps, he returned to marry his high school sweetheart. While his two daughters were in college, Barry completed his degree at The University of Southern Maine graduating with honors in English. He and his wife live in southern Maine where they raised their two daughters.
