Introduction Andrographis paniculata Nees (Acanthaceae) commonly known as 'king of bitters' has been used for centuries in Asia to treat gastrointestinal tract, upper respiratory infections, fever, herpes, sore throat and a variety of other chronic and infectious diseases. It is found in the Indian Pharmacopeia and is a constituent in at least 26 Ayurvedic formulae. It is an annual herb, branched, erect, running 0.5-1 metre in height.
