Why would an ordinary person, not an associate of the clergy, concern himself with interpretation of prophecy?

After a serious illness—the third one in my life, either one of which could have ended my existence here on earth—I went into a self-evaluation mode, looking for answers I did not have.

I started seriously searching for answers in the Bible. After reading the Bible end to end, reading some parts several times and skipping others, I found myself getting hung up on end-time prophecy and the book of Revelation—not realizing at the time where it would lead me.
