John Enderby

Sir Gilbert Parker was the popular Canadian novelist, short-story writer and British politician, best known for his stories of French Canadian culture and history. Moving to England in 1889, he made his literary reputation with romantic novels and short stories "about" Canada. The highly descriptive and dramatic historical stories established his permanent place in literary history.

“John Enderby” is a short story, published in 1895.  Together with other Parker’s works, this one dealt with historical and social issues. It's a quick read, so if you're looking for something short and quality to read, this is the good choice.
