Kimberley Adventures of Happy Hans

After 80 years as a mining town, the ore seams were beginning to dwindle. The town of Kimberley, B.C. needed to re-invent itself to prepare for the mine closure that was bound to come. Following the success of Leavenworth, Washington, it was decided that Kimberley would become the Bavarian City in the Rockies. The transformation began in the early 1970s. A key element was town mascot and ambassador "Happy Hans". In 2023 Kimberley celebrates the 50 years of contributions Happy Hans has made to Kimberley.
