Kindergarten, Here I Come‪!‬

It can feel very isolating and frustrating for a child dealing with the restricted diet caused by severe food allergies, or by eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE), a complex and challenging chronic disease. 

For as long as she can remember, Emma has dreamed of starting kindergarten. So much to learn, so many friends to meet! Emma has a disease called EOE, which means she has a number of allergies and many off-limits foods. So, the night before, she packs some of her favorites-turkey, applesauce, edamame and vegan cheese puffs. Suddenly, she gets nervous and wonders, "What will my class think of this food? Will my new classmates think it's odd? Will they make fun of me?" As always, her mom gives her some great suggestions, and sure enough, by the end of Emma's first day in kindergarten, she's made a new best friend. And guess what? She'd been just as nervous as Emma!
