Violet Durbin lives life as a social outcast in Regency England in spite of the fact that her father, Lord Kelly, married Violet’s mother, his former mistress, and publicly recognized Violet. 


The only propositions Violet has from society men are illicit, for Violet was once forced by her mother’s ex-lover to become his mistress when not yet fourteen. Then Lord Jared Falweir, nephew of the Duke of Hawkinston, falls in love with Violet and intends to marry her.


While in the process of trying to prevent his nephew from marrying Violet, the Duke of Hawkinston falls in love with her. Hawkinston believes he has only to propose carte blanche for Violet to accept and is surprised when Violet rejects him outright. 


Violet assures the duke she will never become anyone’s mistress and knows she will hold firm, no matter that her knees almost fail her at his approach.
