Scotland—sweeping forests, tumbling waterfalls. . .and towering highlands where vampire warriors have ruled for centuries.
Lethal and charismatic, vampire Lachlan McRae woke on his first night to death and devastation—his clan slaughtered, his fortress destroyed. One hundred and fifty years later, driven to avenge the murder of everyone he loved, he’s ready to hunt down and kill the one vampire who was behind it all—Erskine Ross, the Vampire Lord of Scotland.
Beautiful, smart, and cool under pressure, Julia Harper is determined to prove she’s more than a child of wealth and privilege. When a lifelong friend is murdered by vampires, she steps out of her role as an analyst for the CIA, and sets out to take down one of the most powerful men in Scotland—the deadly Erskine Ross.
Recruited by a friend to arrange contact between Lachlan and her best friend Cyn’s mate, the powerful Vampire Lord Raphael, Julia soon discovers that she and Lachlan want the same thing . . . Erskine’s death. But when Erskine sets out to kill Julia instead, she and Lachlan find themselves fighting for her life, and for a love that neither one of them can trust.

passioante and seductive romance
LACHLAN is the first instalment in D.B. Reynolds’ contemporary, adult VAMPIRES IN EUROPE erotic, paranormal romance series, and the thirteenth instalment in the author’s Vampires in America series. This is vampire and clan leader Lachlan McRae, and CIA analyst Julia Harper’s story line. LACHLAN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the original series is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Lachlan and Julia) LACHLAN follows a centuries old vendetta wherein Lachlan McRae seeks vengeance for the murder of his clan, a vengeance that will place him in control of Scotland’s vampires but Lachlan isn’t the only person seeking revenge against Erskine Ross. Enter CIA analyst Julia Harper, and the woman with whom Lachlan will fall in love.
Months earlier Julia’s best friend Masoud was killed by a group of vampires, and Julia was desperate to avenge his death but our heroine will find herself face to face with Lachlan McRae, a powerful vampire who is determined to take down Erskine, on his own. A necessary meeting with Raphael, the most powerful vampire in the world, forces Lachlan to work with Julia, in an effort to get to close to the American vampire leader. A confident and intelligent young woman, Julia is willing to work with Lachlan to take down a mutual foe.
What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Lachlan and Julia, and the potential fall out as Julia is targeted by the man, she is hoping to destroy.
Julia Harper is best friend’s with Cynthia Leighton, the mate to the world’s most powerful vampire, and Lachlan knows to get a meeting with Raphael he will need help in setting up the deal. Lachlan had no idea that his attraction to Julia would be visceral and immediate, an attraction that will place Julia in the direct line of fire.
The relationship between Julia and Lachlan begins as a business arrangement in that Lachlan requires Julia’s help. Julia is desperate to locate Erskine Ross, and finds herself ‘partnered’ with Lachlan in their search for the truth. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Lachlan’s cousins and fellow vampires Fergus and Munro; Erskine Ross; as well as the return of Raphael and Cyn (Raphael #1).
LACHLAN is a story of betrayal and vengeance; family and friendships; power and love. The fast paced premise is engaging and exciting; the romance is passionate and seductive; the characters are powerful and strong. This is my first book by D.B. Reynolds, but it won’t be my last.
