BIOGRAPHY OF LEONARDO DA VINCI

Leonardo Da Vinci, one of the most prominent figures in history, was born in Vinci, Tuscany, in 1452. Although the product of an illegitimate union of his father, he spent his childhood with his paternal family and was considered a true son in his own right.

Given Da Vinci’s particular talent in the graphic arts, Andrea Verrocchio took him to his atelier as a teenager and over the years his skills were refined and his paintings began to astonish onlookers for their beauty and perfection.

Da Vinci pursued his studies and his interest in all human knowledge, which continued throughout his life. In fact, Da Vinci was the protagonist in many Italian and European courts during that time.

His masterpieces are countless, noting first of all the legendary "Mona Lisa”, defined as the most famous painting in the world as well as many of Da Vinci’s hydraulic inventions, war machines, architectural projects, and his scientific research that marked a turning point, for that time, in the study of human anatomy.

He spent the final part of his life in France, in the court of Francis I, where he completed several architectural and engineering projects for Francis I. He died on May 2, 1519, at his residence in Cloux.

Leonardo Da Vinci is buried in the church of San Valentino in Amboise.
