Publisher Description
Finding old love letters in her father’s closet inspires a teen to play matchmaker.
Jessica Shanahan is off to college next year, but she’s worried about leaving her father, Levi Shanahan, alone. He’s been a single dad since his wife died when Jessica was only a toddler. He reassures her that he’s too busy running his family general store, taking care of his aging parents and volunteering in the community to be lonely. But Jessica has her doubts—especially when she finds old love letters from his high school sweetheart.
Travel photographer Grace Hamilton is promoting her latest book when a student from her hometown reaches out about a research project. Curious, Grace meets with her and when the teen invites her to the Woodland Foliage Arts Festival, Grace accepts. Though her career’s been successful and fulfilling, she’s never met a man who touched her heart the way Levi Shanahan once did. Maybe a trip home will finally help her to move on and find the one thing that’s eluded her throughout her years of travel—love.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Carmichael (A Hometown Proposal) spins a sweet second-chance romance that begins when college-bound Jessica Shanahan finds a shoebox full of love letters between her widowed father and his first love, Grace Hamilton. Hoping to save her father from loneliness while she's away at school, Jessica decides to track down Grace and play matchmaker. Now a nationally renowned wildlife photographer, Grace has never forgotten Levi Shanahan, her former best friend and the boy who broke her heart at 18. Calling herself Rae Stedwell, Jessica reaches out to Grace under the pretense of wanting an interview for a school report and suggests she return to Woodland, N.Y., for the town's annual fall festival. Grace accepts, leading her and Levi to reconnect, just as Jessica planned. Grace bases her high-powered, jet-setting career out of Manhattan, and Levi's devoted to his Upstate New York general store; rekindling their romance doesn't make sense for either of them—but Carmichael ably proves that the heart doesn't always listen to logic. Carmichael creates a robust cast that's easy to imagine as neighbors and plots them into eminently believable situations—among them a delightful subplot about Jessica's crush on her best friend, Max Stedwell. This adorable small-town romance will appeal to readers who enjoy their romance on the wholesome side.

Enjoyed it
Enjoyed this sweet second chance at love story. The drama, angst & love is definitely strong throughout this story. Love letters in an attic found by accident & a daughter worried about her father when she goes away to school, brings young love back together. The letters of a long distance relationship gives Jess the idea of bringing her father Levi back in touch with his ex-girlfriend Grace an accomplished photojournalist. An invitation to a festival brings Grace back home & the chance to reconnect with Levi, her one true love. Along with the story of Levi & Grace, we also watch the budding young love between two best friends as Jess & Max navigate their friendship. We see the want for more & the fear from secrets, as these two drift apart. It’s Levi & Grace all over again. Thank you to Tule publishing for letting me read this book for an honest review.
