This book based on communism is the story of a man who is a manager at a factory. World War I results in the men of the town being called up for service including the main character. He is thrust into the horror of the trenches and the experience of the war opens his eyes to the injustices of his society. He is transformed through the nightmare of the war into an anti-imperialist.
